Aechmea xingu (Bromeliaceae), a new species from the Xingu region in the Brazilian Amazonia

Aechmea xingu, a new species of Bromeliaceae from the Brazilian Amazonia, is described and illustrated. It is related to Aechmea mertensii, but differs in the inflorescences with laxed and larger panicules, and red floral bracts larger than the flowers, with linear shape and spinose margins.
