Diversity and geographical distribution of the genus Tulipa L. in Uzbekistan are discussed. 34 Tulipa taxa are recorded for Uzbekistan, mapped using the GIS software and analyzed, 6 of them are local endemics. Four species were newly recorded and three species were newly described recently. A national check-list of Tulipa was created in accordance with the classification by Zonneveld (2009). “Hot spot” areas of tulip species diversity in Uzbekistan are Western Tien-Shan (18 taxa), Western Pamir-Alay mountains (18 taxa) and Turan lowland (5 taxa). The assessment of rare tulip species according to IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria was performed for the first time for Uzbekistan. Evaluation of the latest classification of Tulipa clearly shows that a new global treatment is needed to create a natural concept of the genus using all available data.
