A new species of Eleocharis (Cyperaceae) from the Madhya Pradesh, India

A new species, Eleocharis khandwaensis Mujaffar, Chandore & S. R. Yadav is described from the Bamangaon village of Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh state, India. This species belongs to Eleocharis subgen. Limnochloa (P. Beauv. ex
Lestib.) Torr. and it is similar to Eleocharis lankana T. Koyama but differs in stolon present, spinules of perianth bristles weak, achene annulate apex with a short neck, achene base truncate, achene dark brown to black coloured and nut surface with epidermal cells isodiametrically hexagonal to pentagonal. Eleocharis khandwaensis grows in ponds along road side of Bamangaon village.
