The paper presents the taxonomic study of Sobralia dorbignyana. The conducted study revealed that flowers of this species are in fact red, not white as stated in the reference literature on the subject. The taxonomic statuses of Sobralia sobralioides and Sobralia semperflorens are clarified herein. The yellow-flowered specimens occurring in Ecuador and in Peru are described as Sobralia flava. What differentiates the new entity from other taxa of this complex are its larger and differently colored flowers, distinct labellum structure, narrower leaves, and some other characters.
