Two new species of Microlicia (Melastomataceae) from Minas Gerais, Brazil: morphology and leaf anatomy
4 July 2014
Romero, Rosana; Silva, Kleber; Simão, DanielaTwo new species of Microlicia from campos rupestres of Minas Gerais are described, illustrated and compared with their relatives. Microlicia crassa is similar to M. formosa, and M. maculata is similar to M. isophylla and M. tetrasticha. Trichomes covering both surfaces of the leaves of the two new species as well as their relative, M. isophylla, seen under stereomicroscope can apparently be characterized as sessile glands, but anatomical studies revealed the presence of a short stalk. Microlicia crassa and M. maculata are proposed as endangered, according to the IUCN categories and criteria.
