Typifications of five Linnaean fern names based on Osbeck’s specimens

The nomenclatural history of five Linnaean fern names based on Osbeck’s collection from China is discussed. The type status of Osbeck’s specimens is considered and types are selected for the names Blechnum orientale (Blechnaceae), Adiantum flabellulatum (Pteridaceae), Polypodium barometz (Cibotium barometz, Dicksoniaceae), Polypodium varium (Dryopteris varia, Dryopteridaceae) and Trichomanes chinense (Odontosoria chinensis, Lindsaeaceae).
