Bolanthus sandrasicus (Caryophyllaceae), a new species from Turkey
17 May 2017
Hamzaoğlu, Ergin; koç, murat; büyük, ilkerBolanthus sandrasicus Hamzaoğlu & Koç from Muğla province (SW Turkey) is described as a species new to science. It resembles B. thymoides Hub.-Mor., but differs from this species in certain morphological characters, including seed micromorphology. Furthermore, the phylogenetic relationships of all Bolanthus species distributed in Turkey were investigated by using DNA sequences of the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) and trnL–trnF genes. The results of both, morphological and molecular analyses support the description of the recently discovered Muğla population as a distinct species. In addition, a diagnostic key for all Bolanthus species growing in Turkey is provided.
