Starting in August 2025, Dr. Jalil Noroozi will take over the role of Editor-in-Chief in taxonomy and systematics at Nordic Journal of Botany, as Torbjörn Tyler is retiring from his role. We welcome Jalil warmly to the editorial board of NJB and we are looking forward to developing NJB further with the support of his expertise.
Jalil Noroozi was born in 1979 in north-western Iran and pursued his academic education at the University of Tabriz, Iran (BSc, June 2002), University of Tehran, Iran (MSc, October 2005), and University of Vienna, Austria (PhD, October 2013). Since 2003, his research has focused on the plant diversity, vegetation, and biogeography of alpine habitats in South-West Asia.
From 2014 to 2016, he conducted research as a scientist at the Natural History Museum Vienna. Since 2016, he has served as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Vienna. In March 2023, he completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna.
Noroozi's extensive publication record predominantly addresses the plant vegetation of alpine habitats in South-West Asia, with notable contributions to the understanding of biodiversity hotspots. His recent research projects have primarily investigated the phylogeography of alpine plant species in South-West Asia. He has identified numerous vegetation types and described several plant species new to science.
