We welcome on board our third Subject Editor for Chinese vascular plants, Professor Qiang Wang!

Qiang Wang is a professor of plant systematics and biodiversity at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Trained at Sichuan University and later the Institute of Botany (PhD, 2011), he has built a career spanning taxonomy, phylogeny and floristic research, with a strong focus on Lamiaceae, Campanulaceae, and the rich plant diversity of the Pan-Himalayan region. After joining the Institute of Botany as an assistant professor in 2011, he advanced to full professor and now serves as Director of the China National Herbarium (PE) and Executive Director of two national key laboratories dedicated to plant diversity and evolutionary botany.

Wang’s work integrates classical taxonomy with phylogenomic and biogeographic approaches, contributing major monographs, numerous species discoveries, and wide-ranging studies on plant evolution across Asia. He leads the Plant Diversity of Pan-Himalaya Research Group and plays central roles in large collaborative projects, including the Flora of Pan-Himalaya.
